She

She smells like lilies
But she's hard to find
And her most beautiful delight
Is being naked all the time
Toothbrush, no bra
Long t-shirt, might be mine
Pictures calming the walls
A ceiling full of fake stars
No one knows she likes to drink
More than she loves the stars
No one ever sees her cry
Black tears, rum in hand
She lost her phone in a cab
And that was enough
To smoke and drink all night
She smiles wildly, drops her eyes
With a sweet and sour sense
Hiding, she wants to be found
I can see it when she laughs
She tells me tales
‘Bout her grayish days
How to recognize that blur
She paints it with pride
But her colors have no sound
The mirror's quiet
But she's screaming inside
No one knows she likes to drink
More than she loves the stars
No one ever sees her cry
Black tears, rum in hand
She lost her phone in a cab
And that was enough
To forget how much she’s loved
Last Friday night my innocent life
Met her truth for the very first time
"
I don't want to think and that's why I drink"
She confessed to me outright
In my bed, in my mind
I think of her every night
But how can I change what I can't by myself
I can’t by myself
And if she ever cries for help I’ll be there
In my arms she’ll stay as long as it takes
For a beautiful life to decide
Decide to change

Courtesy Calls

Sitting in a studio learning music from the 80’s with a man
I try to focus but my mind is looking sideways through my eyes
Couldn’t see her face from where I was
Had seen her hair from behind
Now I was shaking her hand
Don’t hold on
To the things you don’t know
Don’t hold on
Don’t hold on too fast
Don’t hold on to what might become
What it is will be fine and will get better in time
Don’t hold on
Let it be or let go
She walked out in a blink I almost run to say:
"Hey, how we go get a beer?
You wont regret it my dear"
I had to wait two long days to see her blue eyes again
I had a date with someone else
Never mind she said: "Yes"
Don’t hold on
To the things you don’t know
Don’t hold on
Don’t hold on too fast
Don’t hold on to what might become
What it is will be fine and will get better in time
Don’t hold on
Let it be or let go
See you back at the studio or come over if you’d like
Don’t mean to rush or insist, just thought I’d offer since I like
Everything about you, how you talk poetry and such
Who’s Maggie Nelson, I don’t know,
But she makes you smile and I fall in love
Last time I saw her I said:
"Hey, I think I need to be alone"
Fuck no cuz I miss you so
Please don’t
Take the book you lend me
Stay a little longer
And write
A little poem
And leave
Leave it on my counter
Cuz I don’t understand
Your courtesy calls at midnight hours

Pancakes

She dreamed of pancakes
I dreamed of you
Opened my eyes in the daylight
I'll keep my phone out of radar
Cause it has nothing to do with what we do
I dreamed in past tense
She dreamed of him
Woke up in distress
Nothing will make sense
We try to save the words that won't be sung
Misunderstandings come back to life in my sleep
And I dream of a time and place where I could say:
"I'm sorry for not saying I'm sorry back then"
She dreamed of a guy
He said he'd love her back
And when it fell apart
It was the very sixth time
And she kept inside the hope that he would understand
I dreamed by her side
Asked you to hold me tight
And right before I woke up
Begged you to stick around for a while
But had no time to say goodbye
Misunderstandings come back to life in my sleep
And I dream of a time and place where I could say:
"I'm sorry for not saying I'm sorry back then"
She dreamed of pancakes
I dreamed of you
Never thought I would take the blame
For something I didn't do
Misunderstandings come back to life in my sleep
And I dream of a time and place where I could say:
"I'm sorry for not saying I'm sorry back then"
She dreamed of pancakes
I dreamed of you
